Program: Family Search: What You Think It Is and a Whole Lot More!
Speaker: Chris Schmink
FamilySearch is the largest free genealogical research source available anywhere online. A service, provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it is an extension of the huge Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Chris Schmink, director of the Columbus Family History Center, will give an overview of types of resources available through this wonderful resource: Records, Images, Family Tree, Genealogies, Catalog, Books, the Research Wiki, etc. He will also explain restricted resources and FamilySearch’s unique Family Tree format, which seeks to build a single “world family tree.”
As part of the program, Whit Gaines, head of the Columbus Public Library’s Genealogy Room, will say a few words on accessing certain restricted FamilySearch records through the Genealogy Room’s computers.
Please note that the Society will have a short business meeting prior to the program. The program should start around 3:15p.m.
